Fair Foods - A surplus produce distribution organization operating in the Boston area. FF is a true community organization run by community members for the benefit for others in the community. I have worked with fair foods in various capacities but my favorite is visiting the Chelsea Market. It's not every day you get to see where produce is shipped to your grocery store! I am currently working on creating fact sheets on the impact of FF services, though honestly that can easily be seen any day of the week at FF sites!

Profiles in Community - This should go in the multimedia section but since it's a series I decided to put it here. These are interviews with members of various communities talking about their story and what community means to them.

Media Technology for Community Building - This contains a treasure trove of resources for digital tools that can be used for collaboration. It was for a course I took in the Urban Studies department at MIT in which we looked at innovative tools that gave voice and ownership to individuals and the community. My favorite tool that I use is Cinch (from blogtalkradio).

Postcards - I collect postcards from places my friends and family have lived or visited. I really like stamps and postcards are quick ways to tell someone you are thinking about them even though you are so far away. Initially I decided to stick them on my wall but my collection got too big for any walls. I have scanned them all and am in the process of creating and interactive map to display them.

Scanning Monochromator - Of all the school projects I've ever worked on, I will have to say building this was by far the coolest thing. It didn't work perfectly but all the optical, mechanical, and electronic parts worked together to make for one cool machine! The purpose of a scanning monochromator is to determine the wavelength of a light source (or the different wavelengths contained within the source). It uses several lenses and mirrors as well as all important diffraction grating to seperate out and scan through bands of light waves.

Where is Waldo - A practical use for image processing! I'm certain cutting edge image search technology can do a better job than my creation but I just like using this as an example to young students of how cool programming can be. Writing programs makes you question your process of interacting with your environment. So much of what we do is automatic that we don't appreciate how really awesome all the mechanical and electrical systems are in our bodies.

Office of the Ombudsperson Website - I don't maintain the website anymore but it's one of my favorite designs. I really like the magnifying glass theme that went with the brochures! I also designed a couple of the brochures on the resource page.
